V3 Shipping Update

THOSE OF YOU THAT PRE-ORDERED V3 AND WANT TO GET YOUR DVD & SLIPCASE IN A
TIMELY MANNER, PLEASE READ THIS:

Friday, July 21st, 167 packages + me ready to crawl into the car and head for the regional Post Office.
Wednesday (7/29) I shipped out about 30 Vol. 3's with slipcases and I was horrified at how long it took to type/copy-paste the info in each order, and asked for help (on our blog, link below) with SCV3 + Slipcase Pre-Order Speedy Ship; Thursday about 40 V3's/slipcases went out as I was beginning to implement the speedy-ship plan; yesterday I shipped out 167 PACKAGES!!!! IT WORKS! (see pic!). (So exhausted I slept 9 hours following, haven't slept more than 4 hours per night in a LONG time!

At the Post Office…first load...they should have given me a bigger cart!
It pre-loads your shipping address and prints the shipping label with just a couple of clicks, in seconds!

Second load. Then home to collapse in a heap.
If you want your pre-orders in a timely manner, this works and I really appreciate it! It's a KINDNESS you can do that helps both you and me, as co-creators in getting these shipped. We only actually get 66¢ of the $1.00 paid. AND those that order Volume 3 NOW, anew (via ebay or our blog) are helping to fund the pre-order's shipping, NEW sales are the engine driving the shipping of the pre-orders…please help spread the word!! Amazon orders do help, but they only pay out every two weeks, not instant like Paypal does from orders here on our blog or Ebay.

I've added the link just below here, but you can also scroll down in this post where I've added the button for Speedy-ship for convenience.

SCV3 + Slipcase Pre-Order Speedy Ship

Okay, SO you already pre-ordered Volume 3 (with the slipcase included) years ago, BUT you are worried it's going to take WEEKS to get it in the mail (because I have to laboriously type in all the details for each pre-order from long ago), BUT you don't want to order a 2nd copy just to get it fast…

FEAR NOT!

You can click on the button above and for $1.00 send me an order that will automatically fill in your shipping instructions so I can ship with just a couple of clicks…this helps me, helps you, solves a problem for both of us. BE WARNED, your order will be checked against our MASTER LIST of who ACTUALLY pre-ordered, and if you aren't on that list, your $1.00 will be unceremoniously refunded. So this is again  ONLY for those that pre-ordered. hope this helps. (This has already come up several times today where people ordered just to get it fast, and I ended up refunding their money...this is a better solution).

NOTE ALSO that those that want to help out more (after clicking the above button) can change the number from 1 to however many dollars they wish to send…several people have done this already, so every bit helps get the packages out now and we are so appreciative!

No pressure, just saying.

Thanks everyone for all your kind, supportive and enthusiastic emails!

SC-VOL3 A-OK!

BIG Steve Canyon Volume #3 NEWS!

!!!

…but first...ANOTHER Steve Canyon film???

(click photo to enlarge)
This is NOT from an NBC Steve Canyon episode, but from a USAF Academy recruitment film from 1959. Our friend (and Vol. 2 commenter Peter Kuran discovered this and another photo of this film that was shot by Lookout Mountain Air Force Station, "Hollywood's Secret Film Studio" (which filmed all the US Atomic Tests). We have yet to find this rare film but hope it will turn up...someday. Be sure to visit Peter Kuran's http://www.atomcentral.com for An Atomic Experience.
=//=

Steve Canyon Volume #3 is at the factory.

Yes, that's correct.

AT THE FACTORY.

I just approved all the inside/outside covers & disc art proofs and the silver check discs (test pressed from the "stampers" (glass masters) from the factory) and it will be here in 1 to 2 weeks…everything approved/passed on both ends.

Unfortunately I had to exclude the two as yet unfinished documentaries from Volume 3 for a number of reasons…they aren't dead, I just plan and hope to be able to finish and release them (in some manner) in the near future when my health improves…doing it this way removes the pressure and is helping already. The documentaries will also be something to look forward to (for those who care about them).

(click photo to enlarge)
These are the master "layer" discs I created that carried all the DVD files for V3 to the factory last week.  I have created many dozens of these over time, these are the last 4, the only ones not to end up in the dustbin.

My health has been on the decline since I started this project in 2006. I was never supposed to have to handle EVERY aspect of the restoration. But that decision was changed for me (NOT my decision) early on, and I'm afraid I wasn't smart enough to just walk away from such a "deal-breaker". So I got put in harm's way and have had a number done on my life and career. The stress has been crushing much of the time…it hasn't been much fun for years, which was not what we planned.

It has been a struggle to keep moving forward and stay afloat: 2013 and 2014 we barely survived, with little money, no city electricity for 18 months (!) and no car for most of 2014. The whole time, to the best of my ability, I kept working on the restoration of the last of the films, and finally finished (stopped actually) on the last of the cleanup about 3 weeks ago. By the end my eyes were so bad from staring at screens that I found myself many times trying to remove dirt on the films that wasn't actually there! We used a succession of gasoline generators (we wore out two of them) over that 18 months, and didn't realize we were being poisoned by carbon monoxide. My ability to think and focus has improved in these last 8 months, but neuropathic pain has increased…and there's other horrors.

But enough about that.

So when I finished cleaning the last frames of the original pilot (several weeks ago), I had a scare, a bad one, and realized it would be best to release Volume 3 without the documentaries (even though it pains me to do so). Keeping my word is important to me, but  had to make this decision. I immediately knew it was the right path. Live to fight another day. Hopefully.

So there are still a LOT of extras on the discs…several easter eggs, an unproduced script, and commentaries on every episode. It'll have to be enough.

I want everyone to know it may take me as much as a month to get all 800+ of them (and the slipcases) in the mail to those that pre-ordered, as the automation I planned to use isn't working so far, meaning I type one paid mailing label at a time…but it's happening and they'll get there.

(click photo to enlarge)
Note the laser etched legend that is on each factory-manufactured disc (this is from the V3-Disc #1 check disc)…if you bought your Volume 1 and 2 discs from anyone other than us here (or on Amazon or ebay), take a look with a magnifying glass and see if it has the appropriate etching…if it's blank, drop me a line and let me know where you got it…this will help us fight piracy and stop any bad guys.
=//=

I'm exhausted here, so I'm going to stop typing now, and will issue another update just as soon as I hear from the factory when they expect to be done manufacturing, sometime in the next week or so. I'll also let everyone know asap where/when they'll be able to place orders for V3 again (I disabled ordering pre-orders here months ago). More details next time, thats 'll the energy I've got now.

Thought I'd let you know how much I've appreciated everyone's friendship and support!

Thanks, and again, sorry this has taken so long.

This way is the right way.

John Ellis

Happy Memorial Day weekend…And Other Stuff

So…I've been really sick since the last post but starting to feel decent enough to communicate…here's Johann Mitchell's post today on her blog that will answer some questions concerning V3 (all is well…read Johann's post)…I'm working on my own update here (LONG overdue, watch for it …and the contest is still on, just delayed )…Happy Memorial Day weekend to those who remember.

On her blog LOST ARTS this morning, Johann Mitchell shared a few choice words about Steve Canyon, Volume 3, and me, and just what the heck has been going on…in no particular order:

The End Is in Sight for Steve Canyon!

by Johann Mitchell
(Reprinted by permission from her blog at http://jam2day.blogspot.com )

A huge load has been lifted off my mind, because the covers for the third Steve Canyon DVD are done!

We thought the cover was done a long time ago, but there turned out to be a few changes. All the last minute changes are finished and it's ready to go to the printer.

It's been a long, hard road for this last little bit of the Steve Canyon saga on DVD, but the end is in sight!

I want to commend John Ellis for his patience and perseverance during what has to be the most awful series of events in DVD-making history. He's suffered through crashed drives that self-destructed, taking months of work with them to the digital grave, the loss of electricity for an extended period of time, personal health problems and enough to crush most people. I want to thank everyone who was patient and supportive while he struggled through this mess.

Items that were the last in existence anywhere turned out to be in terrible condition rather than the pristine state he was promised.

People he'd interviewed have died since he interviewed them.

But it did give him to find, connect with, and interview people who participated in the original TV show, and add content that wasn't available when he started, or even when he started the last DVD.

It's been what seems like a never-ending marathon, and a labor of love.

I'm happy and proud to have been able to contribute to the whole project by doing the covers for the DVDs and the slipcover. If you haven't seen the slipcover art, check out John's blog at: Steve Canyon on DVD.

And I'm going to treat you to a sample of my work by giving you an advance peek at the covers.

I really like that we finally got a cover that really shows Dean Frederick's face.

I know a lot of you watch things like this for the planes, and I do like to see them, but for me, flying them is much more fun than looking at them. Unfortunately, I never got to fly any of the planes Steve Canyon did, just T-34s.

In this case, I really love that cover. I know one person who's really going to lovethis cover!

Here's the inside of the cover. The list of episodes is dull, visually, but vital info! And another great shot of Dean Fredericks!

Keep in mind, when you watch the episodes that this project has been done a lot later than the original series. A lot of the material was in really bad condition when John got it, and cleaning it up and making it look good is an amazing job taking thousands upon thousands of hours and so much work by him and him alone!

The photos I was able to get to start with looked terrible, and with all three of the covers and the slipcase, I put in weeks of work. And almost all of the photos were in black and white, and I'm the one who hand colored them.

I need to go out and buy a bottle of champagne so I can celebrate when that last DVD arrives in the mail, and the whole project is officially DONE!

John is now feeling better after some months of debilitating pain, and expects to get a post out soon. The end is in sight!

Have a great Memorial Day weekend! Remember those guys who fly for us as well as all the rest of the guys (and gals) who defend this country!
