Inside Cover Art Revealed

PRICE REDUCTION ANNOUNCEMENT

Due to the current state of affairs in the US (i.e. the financial crisis that has touched pretty much everyone) Harry and I have decided to lower the price on Volume One to $19.95 (still postage-paid anywhere in the world) until further notice. We have been operating (and pricing) under expert advisement...but this was before the announcement of the national recession and after requests from some of you that we consider valid. We are feeling the financial crunch here as well...so we have listened and this new reduced price will remain in effect through the holidays and until further notice.

We hope that this helps us all in some way and we want to wish all of our friends around the world HAPPY HOLIDAYS.

Inside Cover Art FINALLY Revealed:

The interior reversible cover insert. We concealed the right side image so that it would be a surprise to those that pre-ordered the DVD. This artwork was originally drawn by Milton Caniff as a promotional piece for the TV Series and was later given to Dean Fredericks as a gift from Milton.
Newly colored by Johann Mitchell. We told you it was cool!

They're HERE!!

Just a brief message to let everyone know we now have the DVDs in hand and started the shipping process this past Saturday November 22...HOORAY!

(click picture for larger image)
Volume One DVD's still hot from the factory!

We shipped the first third out on Saturday, the second third today (Monday), and the remaining pre-order DVDs will be shipped tomorrow (Tuesday November 25)...so most of the domestic US addressees will arrive sometime this week, and the overseas locations probably the first week in December.

We heard today from a number of you that actually got theirs in today's mail ... that was exciting for us to hear and we hope more of you will let us know what you think.

We also decided that we are going to extend the $24.95 pre-order offer until at least December 1st (while we finish our discussions on  what to do about the final pricing for this and the other two volumes to come).

So now it's back to stuffing envelopes for us and we look forward to hearing from you!

And if you haven't done so yet... you can still order yours today!  (scroll down)

Heads-Up Display

While we're all waiting for the DVD's from the factory, we thought you'd like to see what the HUD...err...menus look like on THE COMPLETE STEVE CANYON ON TV Volume One, so...

(click pictures for larger images)
Volume One Disc One "Episodes" menu

Volume One Disc Two "Episodes" menu

"Operation Jettison" Chapter menu

One thing we also want to point out (that is just so cool!) is how nice these shows look now. We've been using the original non-restored versions of these shows for general use for the last year or so, and it's great now to finally unleash the cleaned up versions for EVERYONE to see. Here are a few frame blowups from one of our favorite episodes, "Operation Jettison" (it's on disc one!):

"Operation Jettison" frame blowup, from left, Michael Galloway, Sue Randall and Dean Fredericks. Notice you can even read the words "Lockheed Hercules" on the rear of the plane. This scene was shot at Van Nuys Airport.

"Operation Jettison" frame blowup of an F-102 Delta Dagger taking off to get in on the aerial action in the episode...most likely shot at George AFB, California. I Love this plane!

"Operation Jettison" frame blowup of Tige Andrews inside the very real C-130 Hercules...you can even read the words on his life-vest! He played the second EVER Klingon "Kras" in the original Star Trek episode "Friday's Child". Like Steve Canyon's star Dean Fredericks, Tige too was wounded serving in the US Army during WWII.

"Operation Jettison" frame blowup of "Radar Major" (DeForest Kelley, right) and F-102 pilot Lt. Evans (John Ward, left)...Kelley of course everyone knows as Star Trek's doctor McCoy, Evans played the obnoxious "Detective Foley" years later on Baretta.

"Operation Jettison" frame blowup of Sue Randall and lucky guy Michael Galloway! Sue is (of course) best known as school teacher "Miss Landers" on "Leave It To Beaver", and Galloway was featured several years later as "Lt. Russ MacDonald" on the "Blue Angels" TV series! That's another one I know we'd all like to see again...

I think we're just as excited as everyone we've heard from over the last few weeks, and we can't wait to ship out all of your pre-orders next week, with these brand new DVDs hot off the factory presses! Stay tuned for more up to the minute news RIGHT HERE on this channel!

And if you haven't done so yet... below you can order yours today!

Happy Veteran's Day

Harry and I (and Milton Caniff and Dean Fredericks in absentia) wish to acknowledge our past and present service men and women on this day, for their loyalty and devotion and patriotic service and sacrifices made, that we as americans and citizens of planet earth can enjoy a safe life and live as free individuals. Thank you one and all.

News From The Front (and Back)

RELEASE DATE CHANGE

Before we get to the good news I need to mention that the Volume 1 release has been regrettably delayed for (hopefully) only a week at this point. This is due to a number of factors (not the least of which is the massive logistics involving multiple discs/episodes/soundtracks) manufacturing issues, and our resolve to put out a superior product. Several of our celebrity commentaries have been added at the very last minute as well which has slowed us down (but I'm sure is worth it). IN ANY EVENT I apologise for the delay and take full responsibility for it. THEREFORE I am resetting the counter to Tuesday November 25th today and am extending the $19.95 early-bird pre-order price to that date as well.

NOW, having said all that...let's get to THE GOOD STUFF!

HERE'S the final list of what's included in

THE COMPLETE STEVE CANYON ON DVD VOLUME ONE:

MORE Volume One News

Here's more exciting news about what's in Volume 1:

Marion Ross as Rita Bradshaw in "Operation Zero Launch"

Yesterday we were finally able to interview the incomparable MARION ROSS as a commentary track on the episode OPERATION ZERO LAUNCH on Volume One. We want to thank Marion for being just as nice as can be and for her interesting insights as Steve's first onscreen girlfriend! We also want to wish her a happy birthday from us and all of our readers as her birthday was last saturday (October 25th).

We are glad this worked out with her as we wanted to have something special for this episode as it was previously included on our "sampler" DVD as an "NBC" print. In addition to her comments this episode will be the "ABC" print with different commercials and promos than what was included previously.

Russell Johnson as Major "Pitch" Hammer in "Project Heartbeat"

Yesterday we also recorded an audio interview with the legendary RUSSELL JOHNSON which will be a commentary track on his lone Steve Canyon outing PROJECT HEARTBEAT. Russell remembers the experience with fondness and talked about Milton Caniff, director Don Taylor and the other actors in the show. Thank you so much Russell and Connie Johnson!

Julie Adams as Amanda Crown in "Project U.F.O."

We recently recorded interesting commentary tracks for a slew of episodes with aviation film historian James H. Farmer, including OPERATION JETTISON, PROJECT U.F.O. (see picture above), PILOT ERROR and OPERATION DIPLOMAT. Jim lent his considerable knowledge of aircraft and events to the mix and I'm sure you all will enjoy the added detail.

Martin Milner and Dean Fredericks in "Operation Firebee"

Finally, author and educator John Nitka also recorded commentary with us for the episode OPERATION FIREBEE. John's father worked on the USAF Firebee Target Drone program, about which John is writing a book, and his research has enriched not only our knowledge but also our picture archive, as he turned up a bunch of behind the scenes pictures for the episode.

We're just about done with all of the other artwork for Volume One (previews coming up shortly) along with other last-minute details.

That's it for now! Remember to tune in regularly and spread the word that Steve is flying out of the past and into our living rooms again in just a few short weeks! (And don't forget to save a few bucks by pre-ordering below).

Volume One News Update

Concerning extras on Volume one, we have been working on last minute additions and here are several we can talk about...

Morgan Woodward as Major Tex Berry from "Operation Towline"

We just recorded actor Morgan Woodward's excellent audio commentary track for Operation Towline, the first episode of the series, which is an extra on the upcoming THE COMPLETE STEVE CANYON ON TV Volume One. Morgan is a heck of a nice guy and we had a great time learning about not just his acting career, but also his restoration of vintage aircraft and his lifelong love of flying (he has been a pilot since the age of 16!). By the way, that's legendary voice artist (and Steve Canyon narrator!) Paul Frees in the dark uniform behind Morgan.

Composer Nathan Scott

We also spent a lovely morning recently recording audio commentary for "Operation Thunderbirds" with series composer Nathan Scott and his family, including Daughter Linda Colley and son Tom Scott (who is a famous musician and composer in his own right). We learned a lot about the music for the series, and this also will be another extra on Volume One.

Details on the rest of Johann's amazing package artwork and more extras are zooming on the horizon, so be sure to check back here frequently for details!

As a parting shot, here's ALL of the Steve Canyon episodes transferred to Digital format and on the shelf in our office! We can't wait to share them! Reminds me of the old joke, "Does the name 'Pavlov" ring a bell?".

And The Winner Is...

Here is the Official cover art for THE COMPLETE STEVE CANYON ON TV Volume One as voted for by you, the fans, in a landslide win. Out of 163 votes, 99 (61%) voted for this version, while 44 (27%) voted for the red/blue cover, and a measly 20 (12%) voted for the white/blue cover (my personal favorite).

We want to thank each and every one of you that voted and made this poll a success!

For those of you that have been following the MAREK FIRE in the Angeles National Forest today, we are located...well, right there. So I am going to keep this post VERY brief, because we are concerned about being forced to evacuate our home and studio today. We are in no immediate danger, and I SERIOUSLY DOUBT we will be affected but the high winds keep changing direction and we're near enough to see the fires from our yard...these things can get ugly quickly. Have no fear though, besides the animals the first things to get evacuated with us are the hard drives, films, tapes and everything relating to Steve Canyon, some of which I've already loaded into my vehicle. It'll all be fine. (UPDATE 10/15/08-All is fine here, didn't have to evacuate and everything almost back to normal, thanks to everyone who wrote or called!).

Lastly, I am adding the list of episodes that are included on Volume One, and here they are:

01) Operation Towline (originally aired 13Sep58)

02) Operation Zero Launch (originally aired 27Sep58)

03) Operation Thunderbirds (originally aired 20Sep58)

04) Project Heartbeat (originally aired 4Oct58)

05) Fear of Flying (originally aired 1Nov58)

06) Operation Jettison (originally aired 11Oct58)

07) Project U.F.O. (originally aired 19May59)

08) Pilot Error (originally aired 31Dec58)

09) Operation Moby Dick (originally aired 8Nov58)

10) Operation Survival (originally aired 25Oct58)

11) Operation Diplomat (originally aired 27Dec58)

12) Operation Firebee (originally aired 2Jun59)

Although some of these shows have later airdates, this is the actual "production order" of the shows, in other words, the order in which they were made, which (after careful scrutiny) is the only order that makes sense for our release.  They were originally pretty much all shown out of order (ruining whatever little continuity they were trying to establish) so this now becomes the official running order.

That's it for now...more details coming up soon, so don't touch that dial!

Cover Me!

Over the last week graphic artist Johann Mitchell and I have been long-distance collaborating on whanging together the front cover art for THE COMPLETE STEVE CANYON ON TV Volume One, with this result:

Instant messaging and long phone conversations made things fast and interesting, much as when we did the cover art for the STEVE CANYON SPECIAL EDITION DVD last year. But during this process Johann came up with a SECOND version of the famous Steve Canyon logo that we liked:

Then Johann did the unthinkable...she came up with a THIRD variant:

"They're all so nice...what, oh what ever shall we do?" Well, we both came up with the same idea AT THE SAME TIME: To put up a poll here on The Blog and let YOU decide. If all goes well, there should be a nifty poll at the bottom of this post (courtesy of the fine folks at PollDaddy.com).

You have until the end of the evening on October 12th (here in the USA) to vote. Voters elsewhere in the world have until...a different time . One vote per person (no cheating, kids!). We will post the results here following our chad-pulling final count (ahem)...though you can click on "View Results" in the newfangled voting apparatus below (if you dare!). You can also click on the images in the poll window or the larger ones directly here in our blog to enlarge to full size.

ONE OF THESE IMAGES IS THE COVER ART TO THE COMPLETE STEVE CANYON ON DVD VOL.ONE. Which one is it? WE WON'T KNOW UNTIL YOU DECIDE!

So get cracking and step on up to this poll and VOTE!...for something really important!

And remember what Pogo said...
