Dick Rockwell On Being The 36 Year Ghost Of The Great Milton Caniff - In His Last Interview

We were contacted by Alter Ego Editor Roy Thomas a few months ago, to provide some scans of Steve Canyon strips...but these weren't the work of Milton Caniff, they were pencilled and inked by Dick Rockwell following Milton's untimely death. Norman Rockwell's nephew Dick worked for Milton from 1952 through 1988, and though a true unsung hero, he passed away in 2006. Harry and I have thought that Rockwell never got the recognition he deserved, and we were delighted to hear that Roy was publishing an interview that Jim Amash conducted with Dick in 2004.

For those of you interested in the Caniff/Canyon world, this extensive 15 page interview is choc-a-block with reproductions of the work he did with Milton (including the very last Steve Canyon daily continuity strip)! For everyone else there are scans of his extensive comicbook work, including pages for Timely, DC, Marvel, Biro, Fawcett, Hillman, Quality and others...a lot of neat stuff. You can order the 100 page magazine from their site (for $9.00 plus postage), or you can pay $2.95 and download a PDF file of the issue. Either way, there's a lot of great stuff packed in there (and not just Dick).

Return to Base!

Well, the delays in posting anew on our blog have been unavoidable, but we are back and rarin' to go! Expect more in the next few days, including "The Star Trek/Steve Canyon Connection"(???), more episode preview clips/stills, and a few suprises.

By the way, in case some of you haven't noticed, over there on the right are two relatively new items. Obviously we've added a permanent link to our online store. The other thing is our STEVE CANYON OFFICIAL EPISODE GUIDE in the Links Section. Although I am still working on this, it is still the most accurate guide to the series there is anywhere. I have been updating the Steve Canyon listing on the Internet Movie Database (IMDB) regularly for some time, but it is still a ways from completion. When done it'll be a great way to cross reference the actors etc.

This custom embroidered hat (or cap if you will) was produced by The Milton Caniff Estate for our friends and associates to wear at the 2007 San Diego Comic-Con, to commemorate Milton Caniff's 100th anniversary, and Steve Canyon's 60th. These will only be offered here for a limited time (either until we run our of stock or decide to stop reordering them). They are expensive, well-made caps and (in our humble opinion) are VERY comfortable (and as Maggie Thompson pointed out, "With a REAL sweatband, not a piece of plastic!"). At the moment they only come in this style and color ("G.I" style, "Black") 100% brushed cotton twill, with a velco closure on back, so "one size fits most". These are so expensive to produce, by the way, that it is almost not worth it to sell them at this price...but we like them SO MUCH that we are going to make them available for the time being.
